Born and raised in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, Dr. Smouse completed his undergraduate study at Pennsylvania State University in 1965 with a major in mathematics and a minor in chemistry.  Having pursued a plant management career with Campbell Soup for two years, he started night school at Saint Joseph's to receive the qualifying credits for dental school in the biological sciences.

 

Graduating from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1972, he served in the United States Air Force in England as a General Dentist until 1975, then he attended the Oral Surgery internship and residency at Grady Memorial Hospital and Emory University.

 

Dr. Smouse has practiced in the Atlanta Area since 1978 and established Atlanta Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and North Georgia Dentures and Implants with offices in Cobb, Forsyth, Bartow, Cherokee, Dawson, Douglas, and Gwinnett counties.  

He retired from Atlanta Oral Facial Surgery in 2012 and from Cherry Log Oral Surgery in May 2018.
